Want a Genuine, Working Hoverboard of Your Own?

Then be prepared to plunk down $10,000 to own one of the first ten Hendo hoverboards that will be released on October 21, 2015.

Or at least that’s what the creators of the Hendo hoverboard promise on their Kickstarter campaign.

Four disc-shaped engines create a magnetic field that “pushes against itself” – allowing the current prototypes to hover about an inch off the ground.

The creators do, however, add that there’s a catch that they’re still working on:

“Currently, this surface needs to be a non-ferromagnetic conductor.  Right now we use commonly available metals in a simple sheets, but we are working on new compounds and new configurations to maximize our technology and minimize costs.”

The creators are also offering smaller hovercubes – The Whitebox – to interested developers that want to tinker around with hover technology.

These Whiteboxes can be controlled using an iPhone or Android device and allow for 12-15 minutes of hovering for a 2-hour charge time.

You can watch the official trailer-slash-sales pitch for the Hendo hoverboard on either the project’s Kickstater page or on Hendo’s official YouTube page.

Excited about the technology? Skeptical about the whole thing?
