Warning: Xbox Live Could Be #Offline This Christmas

Gamers have been told to brace for the possibility of more Xbox Live outages throughout December and on Christmas Day.

Xbox Live was interrupted twice earlier this month and a group that goes by the name Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility for the outages. Users were unable to make online connection and got error messages.

A status update on Xbox Live website dated December 6 indicates service as limited.

The Xbox Live service update reads, “are you receiving an error message when attempting to download or launch certain applications? Don’t worry! We’re working hard to provide a fix as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience, Xbox members. We’ll let you know as soon as we know more.”

On the same day, December 6, a cryptic message on Lizard Squad’s Twitter page read, “unlike Santa, we don’t like giving all of our Christmas presents out on one day. This entire month will be entertaining #LizardSquad.”

The hacker group has boldly used social media to announce that they will shut down Xbox on Christmas Day. They have indicated that the interruptions so far are nothing compared to what will happen on what should otherwise be a merry day.

Lizard Squad has reportedly taken down PC games World of Warcraft in August. PSN and Sony Online Entertainment game Planetside 2 also experienced disruptions.

What do you think should be done about hacker groups like Lizard Squad?
