What Are the Top Home Decor Trends of 2014?

Elle Decor has come out with a list of the top home decor trends of 2014, complete with examples of products that embody these popular trends.

As we near the end of winter, we are beginning to see many stores and brands incorporating these home decor themes into their collections just in time for the spring and summer seasons.

According to Elle, these are some of the latest home decor trends along with examples of where you can find products under each category.

Kitchens

The first big home decor trend of 2014 is jeweled and gemstone-themed kitchens. Kitchen decor in this theme can include cabinets painted in rich, gemstone colors, or hardware made of chrome or brass. Counter tops that imitate exotic or semi-precious stones have also become popular in this particular trend. These types of counter tops can be found at Caesarstone.

Wood

This year, dark-toned wood is out, and lighter, honey-colored wood is in. Examples of wood that is this particular color are walnut, oak, and cherry. The Ralph Lauren Home Collection is a great example of where you can find products made of lighter colored wood. Elle Decor suggests this Ralph Lauren Home Collection Desk.

Color

Turquoise is a popular color to use in the home in 2014. A rich, saturated, turquoise can be used in wall coverings, upholstery, and even furniture to add more color and brighten up any room. Pier 1 Imports has an entire section dedicated to the blue and turquoise color scheme.

Textures

Fur has become a more commonly used texture in home decor items, especially on couches and chairs. Fur can, however, also be incorporated in table and console designs. Lee Industries provides upholstering services with several different textures, and Bernhardt offers consoles that are also covered in various fabrics.

Outdoors

The indoor/outdoor blending will become very popular come spring and summer. Many companies are providing varied and lustrous fabrics for their outdoor furniture, which could make outdoor seating feel like indoor seating. GlosterBunny Williams’s new collection for Century, and Brown Jordan, are just a few designers and collections to look out for this Spring for outdoor seating.
