On the third day of the Wimbledon 2011, Rafael Nadal will take on Ryan Sweeting in a second round match at the Centre Court.

Nadal, who goes into the tournament as the top-seed player and a favourite to defend his title that he had won last year, won his first round match against American Michael Russell in straight sets. On the other hand, Sweeting was stretched into five sets by his opponent, Pablo Andujar. In fact, at one stage, Andujar had won the first two sets, 6-3, 6-4 before the fightback from Sweeting saw him win the next three.

In some of the other matches in the men’s section of the draw, Gael Monfils will go into his second round match against Grega Zemlja as favourite to win while Mardy Fish takes on Denis Istomin in his second round encounter.

Venus Williams made a winning return to the Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-1 dispatching of Akgul Amanmuradova in the first round. The elder of the Williams will now face Kimiko Date-Krumm in the second round of the Championships.

Russian and second seeded Vera Zvonareva was stretched to three sets by American Alison Riske before the more fancied player came through, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.
