World AIDS Day On Wednesday, Celebrity Suicides Begin

World AIDS Day is on Wednesday, December 1st, and dramatic demonstrations and fundraising efforts have begun in earnest.

Demonstrations include the cyber deaths of celebrities including Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Elijah Wood,  Ryan Seacrest and Khloe Kardashian. They will be killing off the cyber version of themselves on social networks like FaceBook and Twitter.

The demonstration is called Digital Life Sacrifice. It is a fundraiser for an organization founded by Alicia Keys called Keep A Child Alive, which provides money for medical care and support services for children and families impacted by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India..

The fundraising angle?  Fans mourning the cyber deaths can donate $10 by texting the name of their favorite celebrity to 90999.  By donating, fans can help buy back the cyber-lives lost in the cause.

Ryan Seacrest, among others, has videotaped a “Last Tweet and Testament”. Kim Kardashian was photographed in a coffin. Throughout the day we are likely to hear of more and more deaths.

Keys says of the World AIDS Day demonstration “It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that. … This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention.”
