A new breed of Jeep Grand Cherokee is being unveiled at the New York Auto Show on April 22. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the newest in the line and is touted to improve on the 2011 version in power, handling, and style.
The new 2012 Grand Cherokee features Chrysler’s new 6.4 liter Hemi engine. This new engine boasts 465 horsepower and 465 pound feet of torque, 45 more on both accounts than last year’s 6.1 liter Hemi. The new Grand Cherokee is said to go from 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds, run a quarter mile in around 13 seconds, and hit a top speed of 155 mph.
According to Jeep, the fuel efficiency of the 2012 SRT8 has been improved by 13% over the 2010 version of the same model. The 2010 version got 16 mpg on the highway.
Jeep touts a 146% increase in torsion stiffness and an added adaptive damping suspension controlled by the Selec-Track system. This new Selec-Track system features 5 settings based on conditions that adjust the transmission shifts, damping, torque proportioning, stability control, electronic limited-slip differential, and the throttle response to achieve maximum safe performance in any condition.
The SRT8 comes standard with a solid front fascia including LED daytime running lights. It also features an improved braking system.
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is scheduled to hit the market in late summer 2011. Prices have not been released as of yet.
