2013’s Free Shipping Day In Canada Set For Dec 12 – Details

Canadian shoppers who want their packages delivered in time for Christmas can enjoy free shipping in an exclusive one-day event this week.

Free Shipping Day 2013 in Canada will take place on Thursday, December 12. Over 250 merchants and counting will be offering other deals and discounts in addition to free shipping promotions. Most of the offers are exclusive to Free Shipping Day.

Starting at midnight, Free Shipping Day’s website will reveal offers from retailers who ship to Canada. Companies large and small covering categories such as electronics, jewelry, sporting goods, apparel, health and beauty, home décor, food and drink, kitchen and dining, and toys are participating.

Well-known retailers include Best Buy, Sears, Canon, Wal-Mart, Under Armour, Lowe’s, Toys “R” Us, and L.L. Bean, to name a few.

Some retailers’ names won’t be revealed until the site goes live at 12 a.m. EST.

Free Shipping Day advises that shoppers should check the site “at midnight ET to view all the deals.”

2013 marks Free Shipping Day’s third year in Canada and the site is expecting even more retailers to participate than last year.

On another good note note for shoppers, Kendal Perez of Free Shipping Day says, “We’ve also seen more minimum order requirements waived than in years past, meaning customers can get “real” free shipping from more stores on Dec. 12.”

Shoppers wishing to locate the deals should visit http://www.freeshippingday.ca/. From there they can browse by retailer name or by category to narrow their search.

The type of offer will vary by retailer with some requiring a cut and paste coupon code while other deals will be activated through links to the retailer’s site.

Free Shipping Day was started in 2008 by Luke and Maisie Knowles of Colorado. The idea was borne out of frustration with paying shipping fees for online purchases. Each year since, more merchants have signed on and a Canadian version was recently added. The event has been well received and their statistics show that “In 2011, the lowest rate for shopping cart abandonment occurred on Free Shipping Day”.

The Canadian version of Free Shipping Day differs from the U.S. version in two ways: the date is different and some of the retailers are different. Perez added, “Ultimately, Free Shipping Day Canada is meant for shoppers north of the U.S. border who want deals from their favorite Canadian retailers with free shipping by Christmas Eve”.

These include retailers not participating in the U.S. event such as Indigo, Penningtons, and SportChek.

Shoppers can also like Free Shipping Day on Facebook for updates.

Free Shipping Day offers coupon codes and additional discounts throughout the year.

The official site for Free Shipping Day Canada is located at http://www.freeshippingday.ca/.

Free Shipping Day 2013 for the U.S. will be held on December 18. We’ll be covering the U.S. edition as well, so be sure to follow me or sign up for exclusive CP updates!
