The 2104 Kentucky Derby takes place today at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky at 6:24 P.M. (EST) tonight.
It is the most exciting 2-minutes in horse racing and the most prestigious of the Triple crown races.
The Triple Crown is the highest honor in horse racing and the most difficult to accomplish.
A horse is awarded the Triple Crown when they win the following 3 races for 3 year-old Thoroughbreds: The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness and The Belmont Stakes.
The Derby is the 1st of these and is known for its high celebrity presence and unique spectator fashions.
There are 21 horses competing this year, including favorites California Chrome (5-2 odds) and Wicked Strong (6-1 odds).
