2014 MTV Video Music Awards: Winners & Highlights [Video]

The 2014 MTV video music awards was everything you would expect from the show and more: wardrobe malfunctions, on stage kisses an oh yeah, awards.

A toned down Miley Cirus won video of the year for “Wrecking Ball”, but she still surprised fans bu having her date accept the award.

The man read a speech saying the award was being accepted for: “the over .6 million homeless youth in this country.  I know because I am one of them.”

Lorde won for Best Rock Video for her song “Royals”,

Best Pop Video went to Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea for “Problems”, Ed Sheeran won Best Male Video for “Sing”, ft. Pharrell and Best Female Video went to Katy Perry ft. Juicy J. for “Dark Horse”.

Among the nights most talked about moments was Nicki Minaj’s wardrobe malfunction about 10 minutes in.

After performing a raunchy on stage dance for her new song “Anaconda” during the opening act she went to go change.

When she came back it appeared the slit in the front of her dress was either too big or wouldn’t close, as she held it closed the whole time she rapped.

The other big moment of the night happened when Beyonce` got on stage for a 15 minute performance and received her Video Vanguard Award.

The performance was pure Bey and showed why she more than deserves the award.  It has also fueled more speculation about her marriage after.

She sang a medley of her new songs, including “Mine”, about relationship issues, while hubby Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy looked on, which had some a bit surprised.

Even more surprising though, was that after she finished performing, Jay came on stage with Blue Ivy to hand her her Vanguard award.

Bey was visibly moved and shared a sweet kiss with Jay that seemed genuine.  She kept it short and simple, thanking her fans, saying she loved them and also  she loved her husband, before they walked off-stage.

The rest of the night was all about the music and performances, as it should be.  There were some great ones (Bey, Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea & Rita Ora) and some not so great ones (Sorry Nicki, your a great artist, but that performance was just too one-dimensional).
