Day  4 should be much more exciting after what was a quiet, transitional day 3.  For a complete list of the order of play for Day 4 go to the US Open Site.

Here are the key matches to watch today:

Vania King-vs-Serena Williams: match play is around 1 P.M. (EST), Arthur Ashe Stadium.

King won in her previous match in 3 sets and played less than stellar with 21 unforced errors no aces.

That style of play will not work against Williams: she needs to fine tune her game quick if she hopes to win.

Williams, on the other hand, had an easy round 1 match and looks comfortable and poised for another title.

King and Williams will be meeting for the first time ever and it probably won’t be fun for King.

Serena in straight sets: 6-2, 6-1.

The other matches to watch in the women’s group are Karolina Pliskova-vs- Ana Ivanovic, after 11 A.M. (EST) and Sorana Cristea-vs-Eugenie Bouchard, immediately following the men’s prime-time match, so around 9 P.M. (EST)

Novak Djokovic-vs-Paul-Henri Mathieu: after 1 P.M. (EST), Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Djokovic, who has had a less than promising year, is playing like the champion he is here at the Open, with an easy 3 set victory in round 1.

Conversely, Mathieu had a rough opening round and has only won once in the 8 times he has faced Djokovic.

Djokovic in straight sets again: 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

Fans will also want to see Matthias Bachinger take on Andy Murray in prime-time at 7 P.M. (EST), Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The winners from day 3 are as follows:

For the women  Venus Williams defeated Times Bacsinszky  6-1, 6-4 and Maria Sharapova beat Alexandra  Dulgheru 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

For the men Stan Wawrinka defeated Thomaz Belluci  6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
