2015 Fall TV Guide: The Best New & Returning Shows|When & How To Watch

The 2015 Fall TV season is officially upon us and with over 115 new and returning shows there’s sure to be a lot of must-see (and must-never be seen again) TV.

To help you out we went through all there is to see and came up with this list of new and returning shows worth catching this season.

We provided summaries of our top picks, along with links to how to stream them live or on demand for free.

So grab some popcorn, put your feet up, and enjoy!

Here we go, in no particular order:

New Shows:

The Bastard Executioner (Tuesday, September 15th at 10 P.M. (EST) on FX):

Kurt Sutter’s latest TV offering is set in 14th century Wales and revolves around a knight who vows to put down his sword, only to pick it up again when his family is viciously slaughtered.

Yes, there is plenty of violence, but contrary to what you may have heard it fits within the context of the stories and is never gratuitous, so give it a try.

Streaming of each new episode will also available the next day through FXnetworks.com, Google Play & Vudu.

Supergirl (Monday, October 26th at 8:30 P.M. (EST) on CBS):

Showrunner Greg Berlanti (“Arrow”, “The Flash”), knows a thing or two about producing quality comic-book TV adaptations, so it’s no surprise “Supergirl” is so good.

Berlanti strikes the perfect balance to make the unbelievable not just believable, but compelling and fun- which is no easy feat.

Watch out for Melissa Benoist, who plays Supergirl- she’s going to be one of the biggest stars of the season.

Quantico (Sunday, September 27th at 10 P.M. (EST) on ABC):

This drama from Jon Cowan takes a page out of Shonda Rhimes’ book, putting together a solid ensemble cast and throwing them into a mystery ala “How to Get Away with Murder”.

Using the FBI’s Quantico training facility as a backdrop, the plot revolves around rookie agents with secrets to hide as they try to find out who was behind a bombing in Grand Central Station.

However, that is where the comparisons end.

The diverse cast, particularly Priyanka Chopra, puts a new spin on this proven formula and will have viewers counting down to the next week’s episode.

Free live streaming will be available through the ABC WATCH using a participating cable provider; check for availability.

Heroes: Reborn (Thursday, September 24th at 8 P.M. EST on NBC):

This 13-part mini-series is a continuation of the original series and will feature many familiar faces, but is a stand-alone series thanks to new stories and faces.

For those who never watched, “Heroes” was a sci-fi series about ordinary people with extraordinary powers and those looking to use and destroy them.

Original stars Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman) -horn-rimmed glasses and all, Hiro (Masi Oka) and Mohinder (Sendhil Ramamurthy) are back as they try once again to save humanity.

Free streaming will be available through NBC.com using a participating cable provider; check for availability.

Scream Queens (Tuesday, September 22nd at 9 P.M. EST on Fox):

Made by the creators of “American Horror Story”, this show is campy and fun- even with all the bodies piling up.

Season 1 centers around a sorority being picked off by a serial killer and boasts a killer cast that features Emma Roberts, Ariana Grande, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Nick Jonas and more.

Free live streaming will be available through FOX NOW using a participating cable provider.

Minority Report (Monday, September 21st at 9 P.M. EST on Fox):

Based on the Steven Spielberg film of the same name, this show takes place years after the film wraps up.

Part crime drama, part sci-fi thriller, it follows a detective who teams up with a precog who still has the ability to see crimes before they occur.

Early reviews have been positive and this show could fill the gap left by the “X-Files”.

Free live streaming will be available through FOX NOW using a participating cable provider.

 Returning shows:

The Walking Dead (Sunday, October 11th at 9 P.M. EST on AMC):

You don’t have to be a fan of zombies to appreciate this show, which features the most compelling hour of drama on TV.

Look past the gore, because at its most basic, this is a show about human nature and how we act and react under extraordinary circumstances.

Set in the world of a zombie apocalypse, it makes you look deep within and ask questions you may not always like the answers to.

Dark, gritty and unrelenting, showrunner Scott Gimple has created something truly special.

You can watch the previous seasons on DVD, Netflix or on AMC on demand.

You will also be able to stream current episodes for free the next day on AMC.com  using a participating cable provider.

Scandal (Thursday, September 24th at 9 P.M. EST on ABC)– If you’re not watching now’s the time to start because this show more than lives up to all the hype surrounding it.

Sex, love, scandals and more are all front and center in this political world drama starring Kerry Washington as D.C. fixer Olivia Pope.

With her team of Gladiators, Olivia is smack-dab in the middle of everything that is going on-  and also smack dab in the middle of the hottest affair on TV, with the President of the U.S.

To call Washington brilliant is an understatement: strong, fierce, endearing and true, she conveys everything Olivia believes and feels with the simplest look or tone of voice.

She takes the character to a whole new level that draws fans in and makes them want to be her next gladiator as they root for her and Fitz.

Tony Goldwyn, who plays the President, is a true gem as well, as his portrayal of a man helplessly in love helps elevate this romance from clichéd to meant-to-be.

Netflix has season’s 1-4 available, so plan to stay in this weekend and get up to speed because once you start watching you won’t be able to stop.

Free live streaming of current episodes will also be available through the ABC WATCH using a participating cable provider; check for availability.

How to Get Away With Murder (Thursday, Sept. 24th at 10 P.M. EST on ABC):

Part of Shonda Rhimes’ TGIT line-up, this murder mystery drama has a great ensemble cast that compels viewers to watch.

Viola Davis stars as Annalise Keating, a professor of defense law and lawyer who’s cheating husband is murdered.

With her group of student/interns and employees they solve cases while covering up their own secrets and try to stay one step ahead of the cops.

This show skillfully plays up the suspense factor- it started with one murder and ended with another one, leaving fans shocked and excited for season 2.

Free live streaming of current episodes will also be available through the ABC WATCH using a participating cable provider; check for availability.

Empire (Thursday, September 23rd at 9 P.M. EST on Fox):

It’s not hard to see why this show, set in the volatile music world, is a can’t-miss.

Starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henderson, Empire is a sexy, real and fun, with great music and even better acting.

Howard plays Lucious Lyons, owner of Empire records and the man everyone hates, including his own family.

Henderson plays his ex-wife and ex-con Cookie, who after doing time for him has come home to get back what’s hers.

This show is pure entertainment from start to finish and makes sixty minutes feel like seconds- now that’s good TV.

Free live streaming will be available through FOX NOW using a participating cable provider.

American Horror Story (Wednesday, October 7th at 9 P.M. EST on FX):

This creepy, cant-look away anthology series will feel a bit different going into season 5 now that Jessica Lange is gone, but no worries because they found someone who can fill her shoes.

Lady Gaga, the Queen of all that is different, will be heading up the new season.

She’ll be playing the Countess, owner and operator of the Hotel Cortez, which is frequented by a group of “American Horror Story” regulars and guest stars.

Definitely not for the faint of heart, this show always keeps you watching- even when you’d rather not.

Streaming of each new episode will also available the next day through FXnetworks.com, Google Play & Vudu.

Gotham (Monday, September 21st at 8 P.M. EST on Fox):

Another quality, comic-based drama that features crisp dialogue, intriguing characters and plenty of action.

Benjamin McJKenzie shines as Jim Gordon, an honest cop surrounded by corruption everywhere he looks.

Heading into season 2 the show turns to the dark side by featuring a who’s who of the Batman universe’s most evil villains.

Will Gotham survive this all-star line-up of evildoers?

You’ll just have to tune in to find out…

Free live streaming will be available through FOX NOW using a participating cable provider.
