The Hyundai Sonata has been one of the best selling sedans for many years. The changes coming to the 2015 redesign promise to keep it that way.
Like many 2015 sedans, the Sonata is getting a visual redesign. Its continuing with it’s sleek design, but to be honest, I think it looks a little too much like the Ford Fusion. But that’s okay – that’s not the news-worthy change. The engine is.
Currently, there are three available engine options on the 2014 models: the 2.4L, 2.0L turbo, and 2.0 non-turbo. They range from 190 to 274 horsepower, and up to 35 mpg highway.
In 2015, the Sonata Eco will feature a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline eco-boost engine. It may sound like a small engine for a mid-size sedan, however this engine will put out 177 horsepower, and 195 lb-ft of torque. The Sonata’s main competitor is the Ford Fusion, which also offers a 1.6L eco version. However the Sonata will be able to achieve 38 mpg on the highway over the Fusion’s 35 mpg. Another huge change is the ground-breaking 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission, which has never been seen on any other comparable model.
Also available will be a technology package option. For $4,100, buyers can have an 8″ navigation screen, blind spot detection, hands-free trunk, and a premium audio system.
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata starts at around $24,000 and will be released later this year.
