“50/50” is a good-hearted film about a very serious topic, but that doesn’t seem to be keeping the audience from having a cry and a laugh or two! Inspired by a true story, “50/50” is a film about two friends whose lives are changed by cancer. “50/50” is a comedy-drama about love, friendship, and survival.
Adam (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a 27-year-old who has been told that he has a tumor growing on his spine. In hopes that the cancer can be stopped, he undergoes chemotherapy. If the chemo doesn’t work, he must go under the knife and have the tumor surgically removed.
Even though Adam’s situation is dire, the movie takes a comedic look at it’s impact on Adam, and his family and friends.
Kyle (played by Seth Rogan), Adam’s best friend, makes it his mission to keep Adam happy and upbeat, by taking him to bars and out to meet women.
Based on his own battle with cancer, Will Reiser wrote the screenplay for “50/50.” Jonathan Levine directed it.
On Rotten Tomatoes, a website that mainly focuses on movie reviews and ratings, 109 critics and 14,502 audience members liked “50/50,” giving the movie average ratings of 7.8 out of 10 and 4.3 out of 5.

In a review of “50/50,” Bryan Enk of Heavy.com states that “50/50 won’t let you off easy. There is some particularly rough road on this journey. But even through the most harrowing emotional moments, you won’t be able to help but dedicate yourself to it as strongly as did the people who made it.”
