6900 Flights Cancelled Yesterday, 3900 Today So Far

A massive winter storm that is sweeping across the U.S. is causing major travel disruptions.

According to FlightAware, 6916 flights were cancelled yesterday, and 3947 have already been cancelled for today.

Dallas/Fort Worth International had the most cancellations yesterday, where 728 outgoing flights were cancelled, and 685 incoming. Followed by Chicago/O’Hare International with 481 outgoing, and 602 incoming. LaGuardia had 284 outgoing, and 318 incoming, cancelled. John F Kennedy International cancelled 194 outgoing, 255 incoming.

Today’s cancelled flights, as of 12:30am, include: 607 outgoing, 634 incoming, at Chicago O’Hare International. 256 outgoing, 210 incoming, at LaGuardia. 234 outgoing, 232 incoming, at Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport.

Dallas/Fort Worth International is currently open, but flight delays are expected to plague Dallas/Fort Worth and most other airports in the U.S throughout the day today. Runways at O’Hare International are expected to be shut down until tomorrow, Midway International Airport says they will have limited operations by this afternoon.

The storm, which dumped heavy snow and ice across the Midwestern U.S yesterday, is expected to hit the Northeast today. Forecasts call for temperatures in the teens across northern portions of New England today, with snow and freezing rain. The storm is expected to weaken Wednesday evening. The region may experience a moderate snowstorm on Saturday.
