Amazon is offering $10 Amazon gift cards for $5 today.
The deal is a promotion for Amazon’s AmazonLocal.com, a site Amazon launched last year to compete with other coupon sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial.
The $10 gift card for $5 is for today only and Amazon said there are a limited number available. At about 10:15 US Eastern Time this morning, over a quarter of a million 
have been sold, according to the site. The gift cards can be used on Amazon.com, but not on AmazonLocal itself. There is a limit of one per household.
The list of city options on AmazonLocal is somewhat limited. In our own case, going to http://www.AmazonLocal.com gives us an “Opps, it looks like your’e lost” message. We had to hit ‘subscribe’ and choose from their short list of cities a location about 150 miles away to be able to see the offer. At least for this offer though, the location doesn’t matter since the deal is for Amazon.com.
