Amazon Prime Day 2016 Update: When, How & What The Best Deals Are

Amazon Prime Day 2016 is here and if you want the scoop on what to expect and how to score the best deals then check out our guide below.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What is Prime day?

Prime Day is a day of deals to thank shoppers for being members of Amazon.

It took place for the 1st time last year to celebrate Amazon’s 20th Anniversary, offering deals on just about every item on the site.

Last year many shoppers were unhappy with Prime Day because a lot of items sold out in seconds, but Amazon says that will not be an issue this year

Who qualifies for Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is open to Amazon Prime members only, offering discounts on hundreds of thousands of items in just about every category.

Those without a Prime membership can still get in on the sale by signing up for a free 30-day trial membership via this link.

There is no purchase or payment necessary with the free trial, but a credit card is required, so make sure you cancel before the 30-day period expires if you don’t plan to keep the membership.

Date & Time

Prime Day kicked off at midnight Pacific time, 3 A.M. Eastern Standard time today (Tuesday, July 12) and runs all day long. Countries outside the U.S. will see deals start at midnight local time.

How It Works

Deals will pop-up all day long at various times, with some becoming available every 5 minutes.

Shoppers can access these deals via the Amazon website, their app, Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Amazon Tap, all of which have Amazon’s voice recognition software, Alexa, built in

If you use the app, you can sign-up for alerts of when new items, or particular items, go on sale.

Those who use the Echo device can order using voice-command assistant Alexa and get $10 off their first purchase of at least $20 or more.

Prime Day Deals

Update (7/12/2016 at noon): Here are the major deals being offered as of now:

-Amazon 7″ Fire tablet(8 GB): $33 (save $16)

-Amazon Echo: $129.99 ($50 off)

-Amazon Fire Stick: $24.99 ($15 off)

-Fossil: up to 50% off

-30% off Amazon clothing

Most big ticket items, like Kindles, drones and TV’s, will have the biggest discounts, rivaling Amazon’s Black Friday sales.

There are 3 types of deals to look for on Prime Day: Spotlight Deals, Lightning Deals and Savings and Deals.

Spotlight Deals, according to Amazon, are the top deals of the day and are expected to be available while supplies last.

Lightning Deals are pop-up deals that are available for a limited time (usually a few hours).

Savings and Deals are all-day deals on a wide variety of items across the site.

You can check back here tomorrow, as we will update you on the biggest deals.
