Actress Amber Heard chose the 25th anniversary celebration for GLAAD to officially announce to the world that she is a lesbian.
The star is known for her roles in Zombieland and Pineapple Express. Her next role will see her play opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diaries.
Heard appeared at the event with her longtime girlfriend Tasya van Ree. The couple has been together since 2008 but this was their first public appearance. They used the event to come out publicly together.
The actress later said in an interview that GLAAD was the reason that people like her were able to openly come out. She also made note that her personal life should have no bearing on her job as an actress.
