AMC premiers its new series, ‘Turn,’ April 6 at 9:00 P.M. The series is based on Alexander Rose’s Washington’s Spies, a novel about the Culper spy ring.
Citizens caught spying were swiftly executed. Viewers don’t need history degrees to appreciate the dangers of the Revolutionary period’s espionage. The series highlights courage bred by adversity- a familiar AMC theme.

It shares the story of four childhood friends, Abraham Woodhull (James Bell), Ben Tallmadge (Seth Numrich), Anna Strong (Heather Lind), and Caleb Brewster (Daniel Henshall). After going their separate ways, the group is reunited by Ben who is determined to defeat British forces by gathering intelligence for General Washington.
The comic also introduces the show’s ruthless villain, John Graves Simcoe (Samuel Roukin). Simcoe is a soldier in His Majesty’s Army. In an AMC interview, Roukin describes his character as a self appointed security guard with his own set of rules.
As the friends struggle with their call to duty, every-man Abraham emerges as the reluctant hero. He resents the British occupation and can no longer tolerate Simcoe’s brutality. He risks it all to protect his family and friends.
The four friends realize their destinies and embrace their roles in the American revolution.
