American Idol Was Top Dog During Primetime In 2011

Today being the last day of 2011, we’ve been taking a look at some of the top 10 lists from Nielsen’s, the trend tracking company that also rates the audience size of TV shows and other items.

Topping out their survey for the top primetime regularly scheduled television shows, American Idol takes the top two spots. The Wednesday time slot is in first place, with the Thursday timeslot in second. On Wednesdays they received an average of 23.9 million viewers, 8.1% of the total US TV audience age 2 and over. On Thursdays they averaged 22 million viewers, 7.5% of the US TV viewing audience.

In third place with 20.5 million viewers on average was NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Fourth and fifth place was taken by Dancing With The Stars, with an audience of 19.6 million viewers during the competition nights, and 16.9 million viewers on the results show nights.

NBC’s Sunday night football pregame program came in sixth place with 15.9 million viewers on average. NCIS came in seventh with 15.2 million. The NFL regular season games on ESPN came in eighth place with an average of 13 million viewers. The OT came in ninth, with 12.9 million users. And NCI S: Los Angeles followed up in 10th place with 12.6 million viewers.
