American Idol’s Top 10 Finalists Perform: Glover & Holcomb Best Performances

American Idol’s Top 10 Finalists Perform: Glover & Holcomb Best Performances

Tonight on Fox’s Season 12 of American Idol, the Top 10 contestants performed “Music of the American Idols.” Basically, they picked a song previously performed on Idol by a former contestant.

A refreshing new theme don’t you think?

Overall, there were really great performances all around tonight.

Curtis Finch Jr. reminded us all that anything is possible if you believe, by so brilliantly covering Fantasia Barino’s “I Believe.”

Angie Miller, who performed “I Surrender” by Celine Dion, (previously performed by Kelly Clarkson) gave what Mariah Carey simply described as a “stellar” performance.

Kree Harrison impressed as she gave an emotionally moving performance of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” (previously performed by Carrie Underwood).

Burnell Taylor “vindicated for the boys tonight,” according to Randy Jackson, through his uniquely special performance of Ruben Studdard’s “Flying Without Wings.”

The best thing about Taylor is what Nicki Minaj emphasized tonight. He always puts his own twist on a song, which makes him an artist.

However, the two most memorable performances go to Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb.

Candice Glover once again proved she is the one to beat in the competition by delivering an outstanding rendition of Ben E. King’s “I Who Have Nothing” (previously performed by Jordin Sparks).

Glover always delivers vocally and carries this fierceness on stage that is clearly unmatched.

She received a standing ovation by Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, and Randy Jackson, but Mariah Carey made sure to explain that she too would have given a standing O, if only her skirt wasn’t so tight.

Oh, Mariah you crack us up!

The first to critique Glover was Keith Urban. He declared, “I love you so much. You have an effortless command. You hit notes so effortlessly. You never let the audience pull you out of your zone. You’re incredible baby, amazing!”

Nicki Minaj stated: “It would be in everybody’s best interest to never ever sing that song again. It should be banned from Idol from here on out because you destroyed it. This is my favorite performance you have ever done because tonight you fused your vocal acrobatics with something current, crispy and refreshing.”

Randy exclaimed, “You worked that song out. It was the greatest performance of this show this season 12 of Idol.”

Mariah Carey explained how she is transfixed every time she watches Glover perform. She explained, “A singer of your caliber can do pretty much everything. It was perfect.”

Amber Holcomb gave an amazing performance as she sang Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This.”

Holcomb also received a standing ovation tonight!

Keith Urban emphasized, “I love how effortless you sing- the way you perform is as effortless as the way you sing.”

Nicki Minaj said Holcomb gave the best performance of the night.

She explained, “Your voice and aura remind me of Whitney Houston’s first album. I’m so impressed by your charisma, beauty and grace.”

Randy Jackson said, “You blew it out of the box tonight. It was so beautiful. Everything was so perfect.”

Jackson also made sure to add, “The girls are killing the guys tonight.”

Mariah Carey described Holcomb’s performance as #POW.

She affirmed, “You have a natural gift, something that can’t be explained. For me to critique it is almost unnecessary.”
