Ant-Man Review: fANTastic! | Important Watching Tip

Ant-Man is fun, funny and fantastic!

Officially out today, Ant-Man takes place in the Marvel/Avengers universe. You don’t need to be familiar with the previous Marvel movies and tv shows to enjoy this film though. It stands on its own very well.

But if you know the Marvel universe, you’re going to love the many shoutouts and Easter Eggs laid throughout Ant-Man.

Of all the Marvel movies, Ant-Man is the funniest. The audience I was with obviously anticipated this, as they were a bit raucous, for a movie crowd, from the get go. The laughter and woots actually added to the fun atmosphere of the movie though – and this coming from a reviewer that is usually annoyed by such behavior.

Ant-Man is that fun. The laughs and excitement are justly deserved.

We’ve got a star-studded cast in Ant-Man.

There’s Michael Douglas, Paul Rudd, and Evangeline Lilly. They are great.

Corey Stoll is a good bad guy.

Michael Peña is hilarious.

And young Abby Ryder Fortson, who plays Ant-Man’s daughter, hits it out of the park.

Parents should be aware there is some moderate profanity, a mild sexual reference, and violence in Ant-Man, consistent with other Avengers movies. It is rated PG-13.

If you’re an Avengers fan, you already know not to jump up and leave the theater when the credits start to roll. Marvel movies always have a bonus scene.

But after the bonus scene, about 70% of the audience I was with left… and they left too early.

There’s a second bonus scene after the final credits. It’s a long wait – but for Marvel fans, it’s well worth staying in your seat ’till the very end of Ant-Man!
