Apple Apps Surpass 25 Billion Downloads

Apple announced through their website yesterday that users have downloaded more than 25 billion apps through the Apple App Store.

Apple has been running a countdown clock and contest leading up to the 25 billionth app download. We last reported on it in mid-February (here) when the countdown clock was at 24,305,913,970.

Along with the countdown, Apple has been running a contest with an award of $10,000 in credit to the Apple Store for the person who either downloads the 25 billionth app or submits an online entry form at that exact moment. Apple has not yet announced who the winner is, or what app they downloaded (if it was an app download), but that is expected to be revealed sometime in the next week.

Apple ran a similar contest about a year ago for their 10 billionth app download. It was won by Gail Davis (see story here) with the download of a Paper Glider app from Neon Play.
