Apple’s online store is offline this morning.
The company is set to reveal something new in a couple of hours.
It’s expected to be a couple of new iPhones: the iPhone 5S – an upgraded version of the iPhone 5 with a faster processor, fingerprint scanner and new OS, and an iPhone 5C – a cheaper, colorful, iPhone.
In the past, when Apple has revealed a new iPhone or iPad, the store would go down for a few hours before the reveal.
And as expected, that happened right on schedule this morning.
Right now, attempts to access the Apple store result in a message saying (in a number of languages) “We’ll Be Back. We’re busy updating the Apple Store for you and will be back soon!”
So what’s going on?
It’s likely that the systems are being updated with all the latest info on the new devices… summaries, prices, dates for when pre-orders will be open.
The Apple Store will probably reopen with all the new info soon after the reveal event.
In the past, pre-orders of the new products have begun on the second Friday after the reveal. In this case, that would be September 20th – if past history holds. Pre-orders will probably begin early that morning…. last time it was 3am!
A number of carriers will also open their pre-order systems at the same time.
Apple is mum on all this so far, of course. But we’ll know more soon.
