Austin, Texas, May Receive Google Fiber On April 9th

Google Fiber has already been deployed in Kansas City.

Now VentureBeat reports that the  City of Austin and Google are sending out invitations for next week, which is a press conference scheduled for ‘a very important announcement’.

SlashGear says as Google is holding the event in collaboration with the government body of Austin, one of the things that is a possibility is Google Fiber.

However, there is no official confirmation so far, and this could lead to something else. But since Austin, Texas is highly tech-based, there’s a case.

The announcement will be made on April 9 at 11 am by Google. A large number of community and elected leaders will be in attendance.

Google Fiber offers 1 Gbps fiber optic internet for home connection in U.S, which is 100 times higher than the speed of internet that most homes currently have available.

Google Fiber costs anywhere from free (limited speed with a $300 set up cost) to 1Gbps service at $70/month (no setup fee). 1Gbs plus TV is $120/month.

Are you eager to have Google Fiber in your city?
