Graco Children’s Products is recalling two million baby strollers that have been linked to four infant deaths between 2003 and 2005, according to the company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The CPSC announced that the recalls involve the Quattro and MetroLite versions of the baby strollers. These strollers are blamed for the strangulation death of four infants as well as injuries to six additional babies. Five infants became entrapped in the stroller leading to bruises and cuts and one had difficulty breathing.
The recall applies to the Graco Quattro Tour strollers that were manufactured before November 2006 and the MetroLite strollers that were produced prior to July 2007.
Graco Children’s Products is a division of Newell Rubbermaid. Connie Bryant, spokeswoman for Newell, says the company is taking the issue very seriously and considers the safety of children to be its top priority.
This latest recall joins the long list of recalls Graco has endured this year. In January the company recalled 1.5 million baby strollers due to a risk of fingertip amputation. Following that recall, Graco recalled 1.2 million highchairs in March because of a risk of tipping over. Finally in April the company issued a recall of 217,o00 baby cribs that posed a risk of strangulation.
