Over the weekend, Best Buy released a list of the 50 stores that it is closing this year.
Best Buy announced last week that they would be closing 50 of their big box stores. In a statement issued by the company, they said two of the stores, one in Kansas City, Mo., and other in Scottsdale, AZ, have already been closed.
The company had a devastating holiday shopping season last year, with losses totaling approximately $1.7 billion.
Best Buy’s goal is to cut costs by $800 million, along with closing the stores listed below, they will also be eliminating 400 corporate and support positions. As part of the company’srestructuring, they will be opening approximately hundred smaller Best Buy mobile stores, and plan on increasing online revenue by 15%.
At the same time that Best Buy is struggling with revenue issues, they are also dealing with leadership problems. Their CEO, Brian Dunn, resigned last week under the appearance scandal. Best Buy’s board only says that they have launched a probe into his “personal conduct.” Rumors are swirling concerning some impropriety with a female employee.
