Big Dog Natural has voluntarily recalled select dehydrated dog foods due to Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The recalled products include all sizes of Big Dog Natural Raw Dehydrated Chicken Supreme and Big Dog Natural Raw Dehydrated Fish Supreme dog foods that were shipped between the dates of 10/31/2015 and 11/13/2015 to online customers.
The Chicken Supreme dog food is thought to be contaminated with Salmonella. The Fish Supreme dog food is thought to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No products are thought to be contaminated with both.
Consumers who have purchased the contaminated products should discontinue feeding the products to their pets and monitor their pets’ health. Consumers can return the products to the company in the product’s original packaging.
Pet owners with questions or concerns for Big Dog Natural can contact the company here, or call 1-723-785-2600 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., EST.
No other Big Dog Natural products are included in this recall.
Pets who have been infected with Salmonella can experience some or all of the following symptoms: diarrhea (possibly bloody), decreased appetite, fever, lethargy, and vomiting.
Carriers of Salmonella can infect other pets and humans, so it’s imperative that owners contact their pet’s veterinarian immediately.
Pets with Listeria – the illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes – may experience all or some of the following symptoms: diarrhea, fever, lack of coordination, lethargy, muscle soreness, stiff neck, vomiting, and weakness. Severe cases of Listeria can result in meningitis.
Not all dogs infected with Listeria will experience symptoms.
