Black Friday should be renamed Black Thanksgiving, as a large number of stores have announced they will be opening extra early on Thanksgiving to kick off what has become the biggest shopping day of the year.
In an effort to beat out the competition major retailers, including Kmart, Macy’s, JC Penney & more will all be opening earlier than ever to try to attract more customers.
Here are the extended store hours that have been announced so far:
Kmart: Kmart has turned Black Friday into a full-fledged marathon event, as they will open at 6 A.M. (EST) on Thanksgiving and remain opened for 42 hours straight (until Saturday, November 29).
Macy’s: Macy’s is opening 2 hours earlier than last year and will start at 6 P.M. (EST) on Thanksgiving day. They will remain opened until 10 P.M. on Black Friday.
Walmart: Walmart is also opening at 6 P.M. (EST) and remaining open until 10 P.M. (EST) on Thanksgiving. Walmart has already released it’s holiday flyer and said it will also be having their 1-hour In-stock Guarantee again, which takes place from 6- 7 P.M. (EST).
With this deal is an item sells out within that hour you will receive a card, guaranteeing delivery of that item by Christmas.
JC Penney: JC Penney is trying to get a jump on their competitors by announcing they will be open at 5 P.M. (EST) on Thanksgiving. They will be open until 11 P.M. (EST) on Black Friday.
Target: Target has announced that it will be open on Thanksgiving day and that their deals will last 3 days, from November 27- November 29. They have not announced their actual store hours yet.
Some consumers feel the Black Friday sales have gone too far and stores should not be open on Thanksgiving, causing a backlash among some shoppers.
In response, stores, such as Costco, Home Depot, Marshall’s, RadioShack, GameStop and more have announced they will not be opening on Thanksgiving so their employees can be with their families.
