Remember when Black Friday was actually on Friday and Thanksgiving was just for family and food?
If so, you’re not alone: this year a substantial number of retailers are closing on Thanksgiving in an effort to go back to how things were and give their employees a real holiday.
Retailer REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) spearheaded this movement with the announcement that not only will they be closed for Thanksgiving, but they will also be paying their workers on Black Friday to participate in #GoOutside, a team-building trip.
Now, over 40 stores have joined in with them and have said they will be closing their stores on Thanksgiving according to BestBlackFriday.com (they will be open, with lots of deals, on Black Friday 2015).
While some consumers may not be happy with this, remember that with Black Friday becoming a 2, or even 4 day event many price breaks have been diluted.
By limiting Black Friday shoppers may see better deals and deeper discounts.
