Activision has announced that the Elite Service will be free for all Black Ops 2 players.
Elite is a multiplayer based service which tracks game stats, helps connect with friends online, allows players to team up with friends for matches and so on.
Elite was previously a premiere service available for paid customers only.
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told IGN, “Our mission from the start with Elite has been to make multiplayer a more connected, social experience. For our premium members, we have accomplished that. We’ve been listening to the community and we’ve come to the conclusion that Elite has more value as a community wide platform to drive engagement and connectivity than as a paid members-only service.”
This time around, Black Ops 2 gamers will be have the option to download contents separately for $15 (total 4 separate packs available) each or get all four via a Black Ops II Season Pass for $49.95 . These “packs” will include multiplayer and Zombies content and will be available only in 2013.
As of now, Elite will only be available for Xbox 360 and PS3 users, but there is talk of bringing Elite to the PC and Wii U.
Black Ops 2 will be coming out on November 13, 2012.
