Blue Buffalo has voluntarily recalled select packages of its Kitty Yums Chicken Recipe cat treats due to the possibility of the treats containing low levels of propylene glycol, an ingredient the FDA prohibits from being used in cat food.
The recalled treats are 2-ounce packages of Blue Kitty Yums Tasty Chicken Recipe (UPC 859610007820) with best buy dates of April 24, 2016 and July 24, 2016. The effected products were shipped all across the United States and Canada.
No other Blue Buffalo products are included in this recall.
Consumers who have purchased these recalled treats can return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
Concerned pet parents can contact Blue Buffalo via phone at 888-667-1508 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or via email at BlueBuffalo5883@stericycle.com.
One confirmed cat illness has been recorded in correlation to this recall.
Signs that your cat is reacting to a consumption of propylene glycol include excessive thirst and urination, depression, loss of coordination, and muscle twitching. If your cat has consumed this recalled product and is experiencing these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.
