Angry Birds… in some ways it seems like the addictive game app has been around forever – but in reality it’s just now turning 2 years old.
Barnes & Noble, an Official US Partner of Angry Birds, is celebrating the birthday of Angry Birds on December 11. Barnes & Noble stores around the country will be hosting Angry Birds scavenger hunts and other Angry Birds activities. They will be having Angry Birds coloring contests, Angry Birds high score contests, Angry Birds parades, Angry Birds guessing games and will have participants design their own Angry Bird characters.
During the scavenger hunt, shoppers will be able to search for Mighty Eagle tokens once each hour between 11AM and 3PM. The grand prize is an Angry Birds t-shirt.
Angry Birds was first released in December of 2009 and was initially only available for Apple’s iOS. Now the game is available on Android, WebOS, Symbian and Nokia OS. According to the game’s developer, Rovio Mobile, Angry Birds, in its various versions, has reached 500 million downloads. All together, players average 3.33 million hours a day playing Angry Birds.
And more Angry Birds are coming our way. Angry Birds pillows are showing up in stores around the US, the Birds are also showing up in commercials for products, and Mattel launched an Angry Birds board game earlier this year. Rovio is also reportedly eyeing the idea of an Angry Birds movie.
With all this success, what’s to be angry about? Ah, those egg-thieving pigs of course.
