Facebook has updated their Messenger app to include the free VoIP option for Android smartphone and tablet owners in Canada.
Previously, the Messenger app on iOS was updated with the VoIP feature. The update today for Android brings its Facebook Messenger app to the same level.
The new VoIP service gives Canadian Android device owners the option to make free calls beyond the use of Skype.
However, the new VoIP service has a big drawback when compared to Skype; it consumes mobile data, so those who are on small data plans may not find the service useful.
There’s no news on when the update will be received in U.S and other countries.
Canadian Android owners can download the updated app from Google Play. Bug fixes and group conversation improvements are also included in the update.
