Captain America Action Figures, Toys, Game – Hot Or Not?

Captain America: The First Avenger was released world wide today from Marvel and Disney. The film follows Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans) as he is transformed from a scrawny boy into Captain America.  The film also stars Hugo Weaving (The Lord of the Rings) as Red Skull and the lovely Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and is directed by Joe Johnston.

Of course, as with most new releases Cap is bringing with him a whole bunch on tie in toys.  First comes the tie in video game.  Historically movie tie in games have never done very will, usually due to the rushed production cycle, and Captain America: Super Soldier (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP) is no exception.  The game has received almost universally negative reviews.  Video game review site IGN gave it a 5/10, saying that the game is, “attempting to reproduce [Batman] Arkham Asylum’s winning yet elusive formula…But ultimately it’s not enough to save Cap from movie-tie-in mediocrity.”

The movie has also brought a number of collectable action figures and accessories.  Toys R Us has a number of these, including a life sized mask and shield and an action figure based off the retro-inspired costume.

For the more adult collector, Hot Toys has manufactured a 12-inch, high quality figure of Chris Evans in full Captain America garb.  The figure is beautifully detailed, but it will set you back about $169.99.  If you choose to buy it from Sideshow.com you can split up the payment over two months and earn rewards points for ever dollar spent through their loyalty program.

This is defiantly not the last we will see of Captain America.  Now that the film has been released the marketing machine for The Avengers, which will feature many of the major Marvel heroes working together (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye).  There is sure to be more toys and more collectables on the way soon.
