Analysts are speculating that the new Catalog category will be related to the next gen iPad, which may launch later today. Some have speculated that will be called the new iPad will be called either the iPad HD or iPad 3.
Several catalog related apps have been moved from the Lifestyle category to the new Catalog category.
As is typical of Apple, the company has not commented on the new app store Catalog category. It just appeared yesterday. But the next generation iPad is expected to feature a retina display… basically a high def, super crisp, screen resolution. Such a device would be an excellent platform for colorful catalog/magazine type layouts.
