Charlie Sheen filed for a divorce from wife Brook Mueller in Los Angeles County Superior Court Monday afternoon. The actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation which apparently began on Christmas Day when Sheen was arrested.
Sheen listed December 25, 2009 as the official day that he and Mueller had separated and the day that their twin sons began residing with him full time. The couple was married on May 30, 2008. He is seeking joint legal and physical custody of both boys, Bob and Max Sheen, born March 14, 2009.
Sheen was arrested on Christmas Day on a felony domestic violence charge when Mueller called police to their holiday home in Aspen, CO. She accused Sheen of holding a knife to her throat and threatening to kill her. Sheen pled guilty to a lesser charge in order to change from a felony to a misdemeanor. He was allowed to count his time in a Malibu rehab center as his 30 days in jail. He was on probation that is set to end Tuesday.
The divorce petition comes six days after police describe finding Sheen “emotionally disturbed” in a New York hotel room. He was sent to a hospital briefly for what a representative labeled as an allergic reaction to medication.
Sheen recently signed a new contract to continue with the CBS hit series Two and a Half Men.
