Cheap Trick Escapes Stage Collapse During Bluesfest Performance

Sunday night during a Cheap Trick performance at the Ottawa, Canada Bluesfest, the stage collapsed due to a severe thunderstorm.

Cheap Trick escaped the collapsing stage safely and no one in the audience was harmed.

A representative for the band posted a video and pictures of the stage collapse on Cheap Trick’s Facebook page, with a note mentioning that they all feel lucky to still be alive.

The message posted on Facebook reads, “Everyone is okay and we are so lucky to be alive and hope that all the fans are okay too… The stage blew down and collapsed. Everyone is shaken up but band and crew are all fine. Cheap Trick hopes that everyone who attended the show is also ok.”

Robin Zander, Cheap Trick’s lead singer adds, “Fortunately the band and crew are all lucky to be alive and we’ll see you down the road.”

The rest of the performances at Bluesfest, including performances from Joe Satriana and Death Cab For Cutie were canceled due to the incident and weather conditions.

“It’s Mother Nature, really, and there are certain things you just can’t plan for … we’re very fortunate there was no one killed,” Ottawa’s mayor Jim Watson told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Monday.
