The Coca-Cola 600 is one of the biggest races in NASCAR. It is also NASCAR’s salute to the Armed Forces. In this, the 52nd running of the Coca-Cola 600, Brad Keselowski will lead the pack in the pole position at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
AJ Allmendinger will join Keselowski in the front row. Carl Edwards qualified for third position in his new car, which he received after last week’s victor spin mishap in the grass wrecked the car he drove to victory in the All Star Race. Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton, and Jimmie Johnson complete the top 6.
Qualifying began in the heat of the sun, making the track temperature considerably over 100 degrees. The later qualifying runs run under the cool of a setting sun, which made the track cooler and faster. Keselowski’s qualifying run came 30th in the line up of 48.
A special event put together by Charlotte Motor Speedway features driver introductions by active duty U.S. Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force personnel from around the world. The Intros were taped by the USO and will be broadcast Sunday as part of the pre-game festivities, which begin at 9:00 am with live broadcasting beginning at 3:30 pm on SPEED with the recognition of 3 Medal of Honor recipients from 2 wars. As part of the Memorial weekend celebration, the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be on display throughout the entire weekend. A host of activities designed to recognize and honor America’s military will continue throughout the day up until the green flag.
The Coca-Cola 600 will be broadcast live, beginning with the Pre-Race Show. Fans can tune in to Fox on Sunday at 5:30 pm or the SPEED beginning at 3:30 pm for live coverage and behind the scenes footage of Charlotte Motor Speedway. The green flag is slated for 6:15 pm.
