Coconut Water Recalled Due To Possibility Of Mold

Coconut Water from O.N.E. Enterprises, LCC, is being recalled due to the potential for mold growth.

The Coconut Water was packaged in 11.2oz Tetra Pac cartons. They have a sell-by date of May 1, 2011, and have the lot code 12E1004 and UPC code of 894991001104 on the packaging.

Following up on consumer complaints, it was found that possible oxidation of the drink may have allowed for the growth of mold. Testing done at the plant found no contamination, and at this time the company is investigating the possibility that the oxidation occurred in transit.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is cooperating in the recall. The Georgia State Department of Agriculture is working with the company to determine the cause of the issue.

The Coconut Water was sold at various retail outlets in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, New York, South Carolina, and Tennessee. To date, no illnesses have been reported, according to the announcement of the recall. Consumers who purchased the recalled Coconut Water are asked to return the product to the retail location where they purchased it for a full refund. The company said that it can be contacted at 1-888-663-2626, between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday, if consumers have questions about the recall.

O.N.E. stands for One Natural Experience, according to the company. Their Coconut Water brand was recently certified to be 100% organic by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In promotional materials, O.N.E. says that one serving of it’s Coconut Water contains “more potassium than a banana and five essential electrolytes.”
