The official footage of the Suicide Squad trailer that was shown during Comic-Con 2015 has been reluctantly released by Warner Bros. after numerous leaks could not be contained.
Warner Bros. had intended for the footage for the upcoming film to be for Comic-Con attendees only, but a person or persons unknown there video taped the reel and put it on the internet.
Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures explained the situation in a statement:
“Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.”
Suicide Squad is set to be released in August of 2016 and is written and directed by David Ayer.
It boasts an all-star cast that reads as follows: Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El DIablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
There will also be appearances by Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack, and Common.
