A nice way to break up the monotony of a cold winter is to take some time off and enjoy a vacation.
You could go on trip during the holidays or you can schedule some much needed rest and relaxation in a warm and inviting locale.
Even if you enjoy the winter season at home, there are many ideal winter vacation spots you may find appealing.
A Snowy Retreat
If you enjoy the cold weather or live in a fairly warm climate, you may prefer to vacation somewhere with a selection of winter activities and excursions. This could be to a ski town, a snowy winter cabin, or even a trip to a lodge. On your snowy vacation you can build snowmen, have snowball fights, make snow angles, ice skate, ski, or snowboard. You can also opt to coop up in the warmth and privacy of your hotel room or lodge and enjoy some quality time with loved ones. You might even consider a novelty ice hotel. Some popular snowy retreats can be found throughout Colorado and Canada.
The Happiest Place on Earth
Disneyland has been coined the “Happiest Place on Earth” and what better place to get away during the winter then a magical theme park? Disneyland is a destination that has something for kids of all ages, and for adults looking to reflect on the magic of their younger years.
You can visit Disneyland in Anaheim, California, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, or Tokyo Disneyland in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan. Each Disney location has a variety of themed hotels for the kids, as well as a large selection of other nearby tourist attractions. Additionally, you might find the lines at theme parks to be a bit shorter in the winter than during the summer months.
Popular Winter Festivals
The winter season hosts many worldwide winter festivals. You could go to Anchorage Alaska for their annual Fur Rendezvous, to Ottawa, Ontario for Winterlude, to Sapporo, Japan for their annual Snow Festival, or to Whitefish, Montana and their yearly Whitefish Winter Carnival. Each of these events allows you to celebrate the unique culture of the area and has a variety of outdoor winter attractions such as ice sculptures, arts and craft booths, and live concerts.
Somewhere Warm
If you live in a climate with a cold, wet, and snowy winter you may be in dire need of some warmth and sunshine. To escape from the cold winter months, plan a vacation in a tropical or warm-weathered location. Popular destinations include California, Florida, Hawaii, and many locations throughout the Caribbean and South America.
To hit multiple locations during your one-week trip, you might try booking a Hawaiian or Caribbean cruise. Any location drastically different from your current climate will suffice: a week of seventy-degree temperatures will feel like a heat wave compared to a cold Midwestern December.
Keep in mind, some of the destinations above will be in their peak tourist season during the winter months, while others places will be less crowded. There are benefits to traveling to a place during either period, and your preference probably depends on the activities you would like to experience while vacationing.
