Last week the FDA, along with manufacturer Nova Diabetes Care, announced a voluntary recall of 62 million glucose test strips and meter kits.
The test strips and meter kits are used to measure blood sugar levels.
According to Nova Diabetes Care, the recalled items are sold under the names Nova Max Blood Glucose Test Strips or Nova Max Plus Blood Glucose Monitoring System.
The manufacturer states on their website that:
“We have recently determined that some of the blood glucose test strips contained within the Nova Max Glucose Test Strip lots listed in the attached Appendix may report a false, abnormally high blood glucose result. A false, abnormally high blood glucose result could, under certain conditions, result in an insulin dosing error that could lead to a serious health risk requiring immediate medical attention.”
The manufacturer also said they will replace the affected products at no charge.
Consumers are being advised to call Nova Diabetes Care at 1-800-681-7390 for assistance in identifying and replacing the recalled items.
