DWTS – Keyshawn Johnson Eliminated – How Scoring Works Now

In this second week of Dancing With the Stars season 17 the first couple of the season was eliminated.

Keyshawn Johnson & Sharna Burgess did not have enough votes to continue on to next week.

With the show now just running one night a week instead of two, the way that votes are tallied has changed from previous seasons.

It’s a bit confusing… and doesn’t feel quite fair…

Here’s how it works – the judges score the dance each night just as before. Then the viewers vote, just as they did before.

Now… to figure out the scores for a particular night, the viewers’ votes from the previous week are combined with the judges scores from the current week – to come up with a final score.

In other words, the combined score is last week’s fan votes, combined with the current night’s judges scores. The fans and the judges are scoring different dances for the overall tally.

For this first elimination though – the judge’s scores from both the first and second week of competition are combined with last week’s fan votes.

So… what if you vote for a couple and that couple is eliminated that same night? You lose your vote.

ABC suggests waiting until the show is over before voting to make sure a vote is not lost.

The phone numbers to vote for specific couples are:

Christina Milian & Mark Ballas:  (800) 868-3401
Jack Osborne & Cheryl Burke:  (800) 868-3402
Brant Daugherty & Peta Murgatroyd:  (800) 868-3403
