NHL 13 is another hit for EA Sports.
Year after year I’m thinking “how can it get better?”
But it does, and NHL 13 is a great example. I’ve played all the features now and I can tell you it’s totally worth it.
The game includes these new features:
- Be a GM and GM Connected, If you’ve been playing for the past 2-3 years, you know EA Sports included Be a GM, an offline feature that lets you manage your own team, making trades, signing free agents, buy out a player, play games, simulate games, draft the next Franchine Player. This feature is my personal favorite, but this year EA added GM Connected, basically the same as Be a GM but now online. It allows gamers to manage, play, or coach with and against friends in their own 30 team human controlled league with up to 750 members. You can also view rosters and trades with the companion app for Iphone.
- Hockey Ultimate Team, a very cool concept. You start with a set of cards, basically like buying a pack of cards at the corner store. You play with the given players and they can only play a certain amount of games. You can increase their contracts (amount of games) and skills with other random cards. You can play them against other people’s cards around the world, and trade for better cards and find that unique card in the pack.
- Be a Pro and EASHL, From the ability to request a trade and retire in Be a Pro to the addition of regional matchmaking, six-player leaderboards and club captains to the EASHL. This is also a great section of the game, I love the RPG element in which you have to play games and play well in order to level up and gain experience. You can use that experience the increase your desired skills, be a top offensive defensemen, a sniper, or even a goalie.
NHL 13 was released September 11, 2012, here in the US. Two female characters were added this year, Hayley Wickenheiser and Angela Ruggiero. At most of our regular game outlets, such as Gamestop, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy, the game costs right around $60. However, a reseller over at Amazon currently has the PlayStation version available for $39.98. As of publication time, Amazon states there are only 12 left at this price.
Have you played NHL 13? If so, what did you think of the game? If you don’t have it, are you in at $39.98? Leave your comments below!
