Extreme Snow Sled: Super-Fast Stealth-X Sled To Launch Next Month

After more than six years of testing, SnoloSleds’ Stealth-X sled is set for release December 7, 2012 according to the company’s website.

The sled is made from carbon fiber, so it will be lightweight, yet surprisingly strong.

According to the company, the sled is extremely durable and can be easily carried with one hand or placed in a backpack. That portability will allow riders to bring this alpine sled to greater heights than traditionally used by sledding enthusiasts.

SnoloSleds’ Stealth-X has been tested up to speeds of 40 mph (65 km/h) on relatively mild slopes. In an announcement about the new sled, the company said the sled’s design allows the rider to “lean into corners like a motorcycle while sitting in a race car position”. A collaboration between Snolosleds and 4Design, this unique design recently won a silver award at New Zealand’s Best Design Award.

At press time details on the SnoloSleds Stealth-X were very sketchy. Official pricing is not yet available, though both Ohgizmo and Coolmaterial are reporting an approximate cost of $3,000.

The high price is not surprising given that carbon fiber can be quite expensive. It’s usually incorporated into designs in the aerospace and automotive fields such as Formula One, where budgets are more substantial.

Would you pay that high a price for some winter fun on a sled? Let us know in the comments below.
