Thursday morning Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook had reached 1 billion users.
Despite a rocky couple of months after the company went public, the accomplishment has not gone unnoticed by the company’s front man. Zuckerberg made this status update today: “Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.”
The company, which started in 2004, changed the way that most people connect, in a way that earlier online services were unable to, and united people all around the around the world.
The site has also become a more popular, and easy way for people to start businesses, by allowing them to start their own business based Facebook page. It also now allows an ad buy in service.
Even though the company is going through some difficult times with share holders, and what it has to offer in the way of an actual product, co-founder Zuckerberg seems to be confident that the site will remain popular and continue to grow. On his status today, he wrote: “I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”
Released today was also the social media site’s first video advertisement, The Things That Connect Us. It’s below:
