First Time Ever: Disney To Open For 24 Hours Straight

Disney has announced that for the first time ever they will be open for 24 hours straight. Both Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando and the Disney park in Anaheim California will participate in the around-the-clock activities. Disney all day, and all night.

The theme parks will be open for 24 hours as part of Disney’s Leap Day, 2012 celebration. Leap Day, February 29, only occurs every four years. During the intervening years, February only has 28 days. The extra day is added because the earth travels around the sun in approximately 365 days and 6 hours. The extra day corrects our calendar for that otherwise unaccounted for six hours.

During the extra (February 29) day this year, Disney will open the parks at 6 AM and will stay open, with select entertainment, attractions and services remaining open, until 6 AM March 1. In a statement about the 24 hour affair, Disney did say that availability may be limited “subject to capacity restrictions”.

As part of the Leap Day celebration, Disney also announced they would be giving away a vacation package for four every day, starting yesterday, until Feb. 29, 2012. Information on the sweepstakes is at http://disney.go.com/memories/
