Director Tim Burton has assembled a spectacular cast for his return to Wonderland in Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is due for release on May 27, 2016.
“It’s about time,” punned one headline concerning the new trailer for the film. “At least it’s colorful,” said another.
As the trailer points out, Alice goes back in time in this take on the Lewis Carrol classic. And here’s the cast she will meet when she gets there: Johnny Depp plays the Tarrant Hightopp – two P(s), if you please – otherwise known as the Mad Hatter. Helena Bonham Carter plays Iracebeth of Crims – although you might know her as the Red Queen. Anne Hathaway plays Mirana of Marmoreal (aka: The White Queen), while Sacha Baron Cohen plays Time and Rhys Ifans plays Zanik Hightopp, the Mad Hatter’s father.
Stephen Fry, who almost looks the part, plays the Cheshire Cat. Matt Lucas plays Tweedledum and Tweedledee, while the title role of Alice Kingsleigh is played by Mia Wasikowska.
Wasikowska, Depp, Hathawa and Lucas are all revising roles from Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland, which grossed over $1 billion.
