A shooting spree in Gainesville, Florida, has left two people dead and five injured, according to police. The suspected shooter is one of the two deceased.
Police believe that alleged gunman, Clifford Miller Jr., shot six people in Gainesville and Alachua County before turning the gun on himself. He died from a self inflicted gunshot wound, according to Cpl. Tscharna Senn.
The first of his victims was his father, Clifford Miller Sr., who was shot at approximately 4 p.m on Monday. Miller then jumped into a pick up truck and drove through several neighborhoods, shooting five more men, all within a 3 mile radius. Miller pulled the truck over as police closed in. He then shot himself.
The five men injured in the rampage are hospitalized and undergoing treatment for injuries. Cedric Joyner, Paul Anthony, Sr., and Vincent Sallet are listed as critical, Lloyd Dunn and Anthony Mitchell are listed in fair condition.
It is not known if the injured were specifically targeted or shot by random.
Miller had a lengthy criminal record and a history of mental health issues, according to local authorities.
Gainesville is located in the northeastern central area of Florida and is home to the University of Florida. The shootings appear to have no relation to the school.
