Free Data Access For FB Messaging Offered In Select Countries

Facebook announced on Sunday of partnering with more than 18 operators in 14 different countries in a new promotion that will allow iOS and Android device owners who use Facebook Messenger to send and receive instant messages for free or discounted data rates.

Apart from Facebook Messenger, Facebook for Every Phone service is also included in the promotion.

Here’s the list of network operators in different countries that are part of the deal (via Facebook’s blog post):

  • Azerbaijan – Backcell
  • Bahrain – Viva
  • Brazil – Oi
  • Bulgaria – Vivacom
  • Egypt – Etisalat
  • India – Airtel and Reliance
  • Ireland – Three
  • Indonesia – Indosat, Smartfren, AXIS and XL Axiata
  • Italy – Tre
  • Malaysia – DiGi
  • Philippines – SMART
  • Portugal – TMN
  • Thailand – DTAC
  • Saudi Arabia – STC

The company also said they really don’t need a native Facebook phone, as the social network can be accessed from almost every device out there.
